• Black Swan Ethereal and intense. The imagery is beautiful and haunting. The emotions are so real and raw. The entire thing engaged all the way through and kept me perpetually astonished. Barbara Hershey did wonderfully as the creepy mom, simeltaneously playing the over-attentive stage mother and the manipulative matron from hell. But then again, every actor played their part with such beauty. I love ballet, so I loved all of the dancing scenes. Despite all of its dark, twisted brilliance, I do no think it's best picture material. It surely deserved to be nominated, but not to win. I feel I was more affected by the visuals and the psychotic visions than the undrlying message. All I really got out of the movie is that ballerinas are crazy and get discarded as soon as they hit thirty. I mean there was the whole "perfection" aspect, and Nina's quest for immortali...

  • Day 1 Your favorite song: "On a Neck On a Spit" Grizzly Bear- I feel naming my "favorite song" is limiting, as favorite songs change as frequently as people change. But, as of right now, On a Neck, On a Spit is my absolute favorite. It is very multi-faceted, with many different emotions and feelings attached to it. It's slow and haunting and one point, and urgent yet beautiful at others. I feel dumb that it took so long for me to find this song, especially since Grizzly Bear is one of my favorite bands.
  • Day 2 Your least favorite song: "Don't Stop Believing" Journey- For some perverse reason, this song is a staple at most Sweet Sixteens, and is a favorite of most of my peers. I used to like it, but the constant repetition of it made me see the light. It's generic and has no musical merit. I'll never understand why Glee's creators a...

American Beauty LOVED it. It's sad and emotional and shocking, but beautiful. Above all, beautiful. The characters are all relateable and thoughtful, but never perfect. Kevin Spacey and Thora Birch are especially wonderful. The themes and ideas present throughout the story, (beauty, normalcy, et) were absoutely brilliant.

Sixth Sense A great movie, all around. It's haunting and border-line disturbing, but balances that with raw human emotion. The ending is brilliant (though unoriginal when compared to Shamylan's other movies), as is Haley Joel Osment. This is one of those movies that's just as great the second or third time around. Not as meaningful as American Beauty, though.

Cider House Rules Didn't even finish watching it. I found it too boring and a bit to0 forced to be taken seriously as an Oscar pick. Michael Caine, of course did wonderfully, as the ether-addicted Orphanage-doctor/ father-...
