• On June 23rd this year we celebrated my birthday (so Anna could be there too) with Isa! Got Sides of Seoul AND Seoul Garden (my goodness!)

From Seoul Garden we just got the L.A. Galbi and it was so so good oh my That also came with some sides that Isa really liked like some seaweed (?) which was a little strong for my taste and delicious kimchi

From Sides of Seoul we got all the usual stuff Tteokbokki Beef Bulgogi Bokkeum bop (fried rice) mandoo donkatsu box regular kimbop

SO GOOD!

Literally everything was perfect. Then Isa got me a cute card and a king size ~ kit kat bar so sweet And Anna got me an amazing music notebook with staff paper (which almost made me cry honestly) and three adorable stickers which immediately went...

  • Brain of Fire: My Month of Madness - Susannah Cahalan (10/10 amazing writing, amazing story. Want to analyze her writing style closely to figure out everything)
  • Daughter of the Deep - Rick Riordan (9/10 You sure this for middle schoolers?? Cause it was pretty intense dang. Liked it a lot though)
  • Roadside Picnic - Arkady and Boris Strugatsky (7.5/10 liked but ... felt empty to me in a way. Maybe because of translation? Couldn't feel that tension when they were in the Zone. Awesome ending though - had to look up stuff to fully understand what happened. One of those books where I scour the internet for theories for an hour after finishing it.)

  • A Wild Sheep Chase - Haruki Murakami (I'm not sure if I really liked it... a friend suggested Kafka on the Shore to me, and said Murakami was a really good author.. so maybe I was blinded by that 'convincing' to love too, like it was in high school with certain characters. You hypnotize yourself to focus only on the good, and can ignore the bad. The bad in Murakami books is his obsession with sexuality, often in a stale, misogynistic light (in my opinion). So I loved Kafka on the Shore, but hated a few scenes. They feel so unnecessary. Like someone would tell me it's just how the real world is - I'm being immature for disliking the inclusion of such scenes. But I wonder...

The Wild Sheep Chase had some good scenes and characters - like the chauffeur who has God's phone number. The Sheep Professor. The idea of a sheep that is trying to...

Such a nice weekend getaway (today is Sunday). Almost died on a steep hiking trail, met a nice poet and paper-flower maker, drank some non-cooler wine and bought some rosé wine

  • On the way to Illinois Mom talked to me about talking to Mrs. Trapp, my third-grade teacher. Apparently she asked "how are the girls" aw. She asked Mom if she wanted to help out with the gardening up at All Souls. Mom said she doesn't feel like she's in good enough shape to help, so maybe I could come help? It isn't supposed to be too strenuous they already keep it so nice already. Just some weeding and watering probably. And I'd get to say hi to Mrs. Trapp! >u< Also we saw 'Wild Birds Unlimited', a little bird store I guess. Mom said that might be a good way to get work experience - somewhere quiet and not too strenuous. She says maybe I have more...

Wild Bird Sanctuary on Midland. September 4, 2020

  • Got there at 4 pm, Anna introduced me to Darby (?). We worked in the main bird room where there's at least 10-15 cages (only about 8 are used though).
  • I got to feed and 'water' a fledgling robin, some carolina wrens, a king bird, and some spunky teenage cardinals. I really liked the robin, he/she was a cutie (now named xavier claudia jordan khalil betsy. that's it's full name, named by me)
  • We fed them some chopped up berries, mealworms, and some cat/bird food. Ironic that we feed them cat food now that I think about it... We use forceps for the food (pointy part down!) and a little paintbrush to give them some water. It was really tough to feed them lol. Kept on dropping them, especially the mealworms.

They had such a nice and peaceful life and people had to go and ruin it (though apparently they had trouble before the show started as well).
