- when my mom's cancer returned, and the year that followed
- when we took the cats from CA to NYC and we had to take them out of the carrier to go through security.
- when the sewer main broke at our house in berkeley and filled the kitchen with sewage (had to call an expert cleaning service).
- when we were driving home from yosemite and my car kept overheating and we had to stop every 20 mins for about 15 mins to let the car cool down. it took us a long time to get home.
- when we did a listography update and something was F'ed and we had to stay up till the next day to fix it.
- when i had to do the prep for a colonoscopy.
- the old russian plane landing in cuba that I thought would crash. I was so motion sick!
- matt's birthday dinner (at our favorite taco place in new york) where we almost got into a fight with the table next to us.
- when my cat ripley was hit by a car in front of our house (she survived).
- being in the cremation ghats in varanasi india and feeling diarrhea coming on.
- my mother on the phone telling me she has advanced breast cancer.
- when i broke my tooth in 5th grade.
- when my backpack was stolen from whole foods market during college and it had all my short stories and poems in it.
- spending time with raju before they put her to sleep.
- when a friend told me her mother died unexpectedly...her staying with us for a bit...and feeling helpless.
- our drive through canada where everything went wrong: almost ran out of gas in a scary area, almost struck by lightening, almost hit by an on coming car and missed by a couple inches. finally pulled over into a hotel and gave up for the night.
- coming down off a particular drug and withdrawal.
- the first day of bombings in iraq for the gulf war. i went to church for the first time in a decade.
- watching the tsunami news on the tv.
- existential melt down in 1996.
- missing the flight to the dominican republic because of a dumb misread on our ticket.
- walking home from junior high and being stalked by a man who had a gun in his car.
- when adam and i had a talk at the pizza place about our break up and he made things worse.
- my mother on the phone telling me my grandmother was killed by a car while walking to church.
- two friends in high school in a fatal accident...killed by drunk drivers.
- anytime i was caught by mom/dad with boys, esp the time before thanksgiving dinner!
- waking up from surgery (i've done this twice and it is the worst).
- a date that went bad in high school.
- september 11th morning 2001 brushing my teeth and hearing an odd news report on the radio.
- seeing a man hit by a car and watching him die. he was drunk and didn't realize he was dying.
- crappy childhood moments.
- throwing up on myself while driving (long story).
- adam and I stuck in a room in Turkey for three days throwing up and diarrhea from food illness. romantic.
- profound moments while working with aids patients.
- when I discovered we had no money or access to money in cuba (long story).
- when we had to euthanize ripley & biko due to cancer.
- coming home with stomach parasite after 2009 visit to india (but well worth it).
- when we got lost on the trail in mexico and couldn't find the exit trail we took in (we eventually did).
- severe sick night after having my gallbladder removed.
- when i got trapped in a bathroom in costa rica w/ a spider (richard and adam saved me).
- when a woman stole money from my mom at the px and I knew we didn't have a lot of money (I was 5).
- when we went on a long hike and came to a field of bulls that we could't get passed in the DR.
- adam's drunk barfy nights (tent, e 2nd, backyards) though we laugh now.
- when the LA shelter killed the dog we went back to adopt the day after we called to tell them we were coming for her.
- when my dad fell on my birthday and we took him to the emergency.
- when I fell down a flight of stairs on a rainy night when adam was on a business trip (biggest bruise ever)
- when I fell into a guy's butt on the subway stairs and almost ripped off his jeans. it was funny too.
- when teens in La Boca Argentina tried to rob Adam and James (or anytime Adam had been robbed -40th St, Ashby bart)
- seeing "ghost dog" in a theater in oakland and everyone almost going to war over having to read the samurai codes or subtitles. worst movie experience ever.
- when we witnessed a mom at Disneyland at dinner with her kids begin to choke on her food. she needed emergency help.
- when we went to ucb theater and a woman had a seizure and then a man suffered from a panic attack and fainted to the ground. the paramedics taking the woman out had to be called back in.
- when Adam's dad almost had a heart attack at dinner for my birthday.
- when a camel spit on me at the zoo when I was on a date.
- when a huge spider appeared right next to me in the bathroom in india.
